At Yellowstone Family Adventures, each Adventure Guide has unique and specialized training, in addition to various personal and professional experiences that make them the perfect fit for your private adventure! Dedicated, organized and passionate, our guides oversee every detail of your itinerary and they are an indispensable part of your exploration of Yellowstone.
Stewardship: Our guides’ passion and respect for Yellowstone and the Montana region is contagious, so we hope the same goes for their practice of Leave No Trace principles, use of the most environmentally friendly outdoor technology and their commitment to wilderness etiquette!
Safety: Each of our guides carries a minimum of Wilderness First Responder safety training, so that they can recognize, prevent and treat wilderness medicine emergencies. Each team member undergoes a vigorous background check and submits to random drug and alcohol testing. We also outfit each guide and vehicle with an extensive first aid kit and safety equipment, so you can focus on the rich and authentic Yellowstone experience knowing that your family is in good hands.

David D. Furry II – Wilderness Guide, Fly Fisher, and Explorer of the WildFor more than 20 years, David D. Furry II has lived and breathed the spirit of the wilderness. From guiding fly fishing excursions on quiet alpine streams to leading backpacking adventures through the rugged backcountry of Yellowstone and the towering peaks of Yosemite, David has honed his craft as a fly fishing guide, naturalist, and adventure leader.
He began his journey on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, and over decades in the National Parks, he has come to know the land intimately — the hidden trails, the secret bends of rivers, and the still, untouched corners of the Sierra Nevada and Montana mountains. |
Despite a lifetime spent chasing adventure, David considers his greatest journey to be his family. He is the proud father of two remarkable children and husband to Anna, a strong, loving, and adventurous Moldovan partner. Their story began years ago in Yellowstone, and through countless overnight backcountry trips and shared adventures, their love grew as naturally as the forests and rivers they explored together.
For David, every trip is more than an adventure — it’s a chance to share the wild elegance of the mountains, the thrill of discovery, and the quiet wonder of the backcountry with those who seek it.

Why did you decide to become an outdoor adventure guide?
As a kid, I only came inside when the food was on the table — and even then, it was often a struggle for my mom to round me up. I was always outside exploring, catching animals and insects, studying plants, climbing trees, and teaching myself survival skills. You could say that nature was my first playground and my ultimate “playstation.”
I went on to study Cultural Anthropology in college, a passion that naturally led me to the National Parks, where I’ve now lived and worked for over 15 years. Even as a young outdoor enthusiast, I found myself leading friends into the wilderness on exciting adventures, and during one such trip, I realized how much I loved sharing my passion for nature with others. That’s when the idea struck: could I turn this love for the wild into a career?
And here I am — still learning, exploring, and guiding others through the beauty and wonder of the natural world!
What are some of your hobbies?
First and foremost, being a husband and dad is my number one hobby; I am most certainly a "Family First" kind of man! When I happen to find free time from my main hobby, I enjoy regular fly fishing and competition fly fishing, gold mining, playing guitar, backpacking, golfing, photography, Texas Holdem and entrepreneurship.
What are three essential items you bring on multiple overnights into the backcountry?
If I don't have to count the main three "must have's" - food, water and a good pair of hiking boots, I will not go multiple days into the backcountry without tiger balm, gold bond and ibuprofen. :) There is nothing worse than being three days from any trail head with a sore back, pulled calf and a "Hot Bum"! Beauty is hard to enjoy when your in pain. :)
Why did you join Yellowstone Family Adventure?
I joined Yellowstone Family Adventures because I wanted to work for a guiding company that always go's out of their way to make sure every guest has a wonderful, one of a kind experience!
